When it comes to the do-it-yourself ethos The Walls are one of the prime examples of a band that have achieved so much on their own steam. They recorded their first album "Hi-Lo" in a building awaiting demolition and released it on a shoestring budget. Constant touring helped it achieve Gold status in Ireland. Without even a publishing deal in place they managed to get at least five tracks on film and television soundtracks.
Then payday came when a new song (included on their second album) was used on a major TV ad campaign. Every household in Ireland now heard The Walls music and the song "To the Bright and Shining Sun" became a top ten hit and also the most-played track by an Irish artist on radio in the summer of 2004.
They managed to get copies of their first album to U2. Bono liked it and invited the band to support them at their second massive sold-out show in Slane Castle. This was the bands biggest ever audience to date and provided a huge boost to their profile at home and abroad. They have since played support to Bob Dylan and Red Hot Chilli Peppers.
By March 2005 the album was finally finished. They called it "New Dawn Breaking" and it went straight into the Irish charts at No.5 in the first week of June 2005 and has since reached Gold status in Ireland. Since then they have gigged in the Czech Republic, Dubai and even the Bahamas. In November 2007 the band made their first trip to Australia where they supported Crowded House and promoted the release of New Dawn Breaking on MGM records.
